Were You Ever SHOCKED That Someone Got Appointed As An Elder?

i remember some men getting appointed and wondering what the hell were they thinking???.

likewise when i came to someone being appointed a presiding overeer or whatever they are called now!

back in 1971--when all this elder stuff was just beginning....i decided to quit being a dub. it was a sunday morning--and i was due to give the talk that afternoon. i had skimmed through the talk script--something about a big cooking pot--? WTF. i couldnt make head nor tail of it.

anyway--i phoned the congregation servant ( a former branch servant in africa or summat )--and he invited me over to see him--at his house.

i came straight to the point--told him i was resigning and the reasons why. in the course of the following conversation--he said he was glad i had told him--as he was intending to put me forward as an elder !! and it would have been embarrassing if i quit after being appointed !

holy spirit in action.

No, she is a JW. I mean the old C.O. literally thought white JW's marrying black JW's was "spiritually" bad. I told him I had prayerfully examined my situation and read mags about such.

He said I would not find such couples in Gilead, and rarely at Bethel. I found and showed him a recent Gilead class photo with a black/white couple.

outrageous.

one of the GB has a very attractive wife--who happens to look a lot younger than him--and is "of colour "

I understand the external shots are a real KH, as the Guardian reviews says - they location scouted a KH that had recently been sold, and therefore dealt with the new owners for using it for filming

yeah right... my wife has come home after an extended sunday meeting in a foul mood.

to be around her is like feeling your way through barbed wire.

"Circumcision is a sign to set you apart from the people of the nations"

we know that the hebrew scriptures, or old testament states that the practice of circumcision (of males) was supposed to be yet another sign that set the jews apart from the "people of the nations".

but apart from so many odd things, how dumb is this?.

i mean, how did someone know if a male was circumcised or not??

the opening query is presented, loosely, in the past tense, assuming that you are not currently a reader of watchtower publications.. not that i'm already rather certain of your reply, it's just that i would like to know if in your english-speaking country (or esl [english as second language]) the society deigned to tailor the publications to your spellings, expressions, idiomatic renderings, etc.

as you will read below, so-called american english is a dialect of english.. i found this online under american english vs. british english:.

Do not think the end will come?

thats somthing i see thats asked in my kingdom hall if you want to go get more than 2 years in collage.thing in some one asking that to me or etc i cant say any thing or that would show that i dont believe.. i hate when some one askes me that when i try to plan ahead when it comes to what job i want.what job would help me hold my own but no god will give if you put him first.i dont believe in god even when i did i never buyed into that.. it seems you cant get away from the question im only 13 and i get that question theres no getting away from it..

i left school aged 15 because the end was coming.

i went pioneering till my late teens because the end was even nearer.

i got married at 20 because the end was so close ( no double entendre meant ! )

i'm 70 next birthday. the end is even closer now -ive been told.

i couldnt give a toss.

KH dedication

when a new-build or existing property is acquired for use as a kingdom hall----is it still the custom to have a sort of "dedication to jehovah" type of service ?.

if it is--what happens when the property is sold ?
